Our values

Equality, diversity and inclusion

As the UK’s national academy of science, engineering, technology and mathematics, the Society has a particular responsibility to ensure that diversity and inclusion are embedded across all its activities and are part of the culture of the organisation.

As an employer, the Society is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, bullying, harassment or victimisation and to creating a culture of inclusivity in which individual differences and the contributions of all staff are recognised and valued. The Society provides equality of opportunity for all and will not tolerate discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and parenthood, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

Royal Society values

These are our values by which we work and treat each other. Our values weren’t created by an external agency or a single staff member. They were created by a group of staff from across the Society who were passionate about having values which were visible and to which we hold ourselves to account.
